Dutch Christmas budget has not increased in 2010
´s-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands 23.12.2010 - Dutch consumers keep their money in their pockets for Christmas 2010. Online Market Research company Panelteam asked 1.000 Dutch consumers what their Christmas gift budget would look like this year. Do they expect to spend more or less compared to last year and on what products are they going to spend their Euro´s.
The financial crisis still influences Christmas spending 2010!
Allmost a quarter (23,5%) of all Dutch consumers say they will spend less money compared to last year. 70,4% say their budget will stay the same and only 6,1% say they will probably spend more compared to last year. Consumers are still cautious when it comes to their Christmas budget
Respondents were also asked how much money they are planning to spend on their Christmas gift this year. Most Dutch consumers spend between 50 and 100 Euro, 45%. Under 50 Euro 21%, between 100 and 200 Euro 19% and 14% of all the people who have indicated to spend more than 200 Euro. We did not see any significant difference between gender, age or region.
Ipad popular Christmas gift in the Netherlands
Panelteam has asked the respondents what they would wish for Christmas this year. Consumer electronics are the most popular. This includes computers, media players and game consoles. Typically was that a significantly amount of consumers specifically indicated that they wish for an Ipad. It is a popular Christmas gift this year.
What we also noticed is that we see a lot of social related answers. People wish for a new job or a new partner. Companionship, world peace, inner peace and health are more important than physical products for some.
Top 6 Christmas wishes:
- Consumer Electronics - 13%
- Books - 10%
- Money, Clothing and Parfume - 6%
- Inner peace, world peace and health - 5,5%
- CD/DVD - 5%
- Ipad - 4%
Women are more into books and men are more into electronics. This was to be expected. It is notable that women significantly wish for more social related topics like inner peace and health. Women are more concerned about these things than men.
